The Quick and Easy Boys – “Take Your Medicine”

The Quick and Easy Boys may hail from Portland, Oregon, but their sound is not quite as easy to pin down on the musical map. “Take Your Medicine” is the first single from the band’s new album, “Red Light Rabbit”, and it grabs you by the ear from the opening bell. The track is a real throwback to two staples of 70s radio, the honky tonk sounds of The Rolling Stones and a surprisingly welcome touch of Bee Gees-esque disco, creating a pretty potent pop punch (say that three times …

AUDIO: The A.K.E. Crew – Experience (Lawless Flawless)

Ohio’s been the home of a number of game-changing hip-hop exports (Hi-Tek, Blueprint, Copywrite, RJD2, Mhz Crew) that have found an audience beyond the borders of the Buckeye State. With their upcoming “Columbus Day” mixtape, Columbus’ own The A.K.E. Crew (NickName, Jukebox, Ginnis) is vying for their spot in that illustrious Ohio pantheon, bringing a penchant for hard-hitting beats and rhymes that express an unabashed love for head-nodding Hip-Hop.

I Met The Album Leaf

I was in Los Angeles in the early months of 2008, working on a couple of tracks with my buddy John Spiker (Tenacious D, Trainwreck, Filter) on a demo for R&B pop artist Storm Deisel. After one of the recording sessions, I got a call from my good friend Nate Rothacker (Trainwreck) saying that he wanted to take me to a show in Silver Lake.
We get to a venue that had to have once been an old movie theater and make our way upstairs to meet the band. My assumption …

Company of Thieves – “Oscar Wilde”

“We are all our own Devil…and we make this world our Hell.”
I know I’m very late to the party, but Chicago’s own Company of Thieves has become an instant favorite. Just watched this Rushmore-inspired clip for their track “Oscar Wilde” and it reminds me of so many things I miss about the best 90s pop-rock: nuance, dynamics, and melodies at each point in the arrangement that burrow into your ear and refuse to leave.
Don’t believe me? Check out the video for “Oscar Wilde” and decide for yourself.

It’s Been A While

I know, I know.  I know that things have been a little slow here at IMARS and I promise that it will be resolved in the next couple of weeks.  We’ll have much more content, news, interviews…pretty much the whole kit-and-kaboodle that the site was built on in the first place.
Quick wrap-up of recent “news” on the blogosphere:
- Kanye West was a real champ, taking it on the chin from the South Park guys last week.  His blog post regarding the episode was pretty cool.  Maybe it’ll change some people’s …

Friday the 13th Kills at the Box Office

One of the original slasher franchises got a huge reboot this weekend as “Friday the 13th” raked in an estimated $42.2 million. It’s the largest opening weekend for a pure horror film and the best debut of an R-rated flick since last year’s “Wanted”. According to BoxOfficeGuru.com, “Friday the 13th” was produced by Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, for roughly $19 million. Imagine how crazy things are going to get when the company’s done with their re-launch of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. Here’s to hoping that Robert Englund …
